You’re correct, but for the most part batteries have held up exceptionally well. Data on a variety of models here as well as some Tesla-specific data.

The Nissan Leaf is an outlier in this regard. Their (very odd) refusal to adopt active cooling has led to accelerated battery degradation. However, nearly all vehicles on the market today have active cooling, and show better degradation curves.
